WELCOME TO ADVANCED SPECIALTY HOSPITALS OF GREENBRIAR REHABILTIATION
Greenbriar Rehabilitation Hospital resides on a 13-acre campus and provides a unique continuum of care, ranging from Assisted Living to Skilled Nursing Services. The Hospital is JCAHO accredited and accepts Medicare, Medicaid, Workers’ Compensation and some insurance benefits.
Acute “Rehab” provides an intensive multidisciplinary, coordinated team approach primarily promoting “special” rehabilitative health care services for the injured or disabled in anticipation of restoring lost function following an acute illness or accidental injury.
The goal of an “IRF” is to achieve self-sufficiency or attain the maximal level of functional independence with a more aggressive approach resulting in a shorter length of stay (LOS).
Rehabilitation therapy averages a minimum of 3 hours/day of 2 or more disciplines (PT, OT, ST) at least 5-days/week.
Physicians are actively coordinating multi-disciplinary care & are typically available 24 hours/day.
Rehabilitative Nursing, as part of the integrated team, provides direct, skilled care, assessments & teaching every shift. Direct nursing care averages 5 hours/day.
Management of complicated surgical wounds requires care & assessments several times/day, if applicable.
Individual may have a medical/surgical condition that is stable enough to allow the individual to fully participate in therapies.

ACP Programs - currently, Advanced Specialty Hospitals of Greenbriar Rehabilitation is the only local facility to offer the “ACP” Programs.
Prior to admission to the Inpatient Rehabilitation Program, each individual is clinically assessed to determine whether his or her specific condition would benefit from the comprehensive level of services provided. A team member from the Program conducts this free, personal assessment at the individual’s home, hospital or other current setting, to see if the Inpatient Rehabilitation Program can meet the needs of the referred individual. If it is determined that the patient would benefit from the Program, the Medical Director can authorize admission to Greenbriar Rehabilitation Hospital.
To be eligible for admission, it is recommended that the individual meet the following criteria:
Require at least two therapies (e.g., physical and occupational therapy);
Is medically stable;
Has the potential to improve function or achieve independence;
Has an identified discharge placement;
Is willing to participate with the team in the rehabilitation program; and
Is at least 18 years of age.
Admissions Accepted 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
We do not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, sex, source of income, physical disability, national origin, marital status or any other protected class under federal, state or local law in the use, occupancy or delivery of services to our patients.

Melissa Boughner, LNHA Hospital Administrator
Melissa Boughner, LNHA Hospital Administrator
Melissa Boughner, LNHA, has been a part of the Greenbriar campus and family for almost 13 years of her 20 year career in the healthcare world. Melissa attended Youngstown State University and graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and then furthered her education to become a licensed nursing home administrator (LNHA) in 1997.
Melissa started her career as a Nursing Assistant and then moved onward to Activities Director. As an Activities Director, she worked with the MRDD and Alzheimer’s populations for almost 8 years. After graduation and once she earned her license as an LNHA, she shifted gears and accepted an Assistant Administrator’s position at the Greenbriar Healthcare Center. Only a year later she became the Administrator there.
She was the Administrator at Greenbriar Center and for the Commons at Greenbriar for almost 7 years when she took on the challenge of becoming the Administrator for the Inpatient Acute Rehabilitation facility- Advanced Specialty Hospitals of Greenbriar Rehabilitation. In her new role, Melissa participated in the development of the Hospital’s programs and facilitated the creation of the amputation program. She played a key role in the initial Joint Commission accreditation process in 2005.

In 2004 and again in 2005, UPMC took her to Palermo, Sicily in Italy to facilitate the development of a Physical Therapy department at UPMC’s sister hospital “ISMETT” (Istituto Mediterraneo per i Trapianti e Terapie ad Alta Specializzazione), a transplant specialty hospital.
